rigmarole rigaramole.

I watched that movie called Once yesterday and today and the day before yesterday. I watched it and the special features and with the commentary and everything. I'm one of those people who watches all that crap. All the DVD extras. Some people don't, I guess.

This movie Once is about a magical foreign fairy princess who comes to Ireland to grant the wishes of a very lazy Irishman. It is a fairytale with all the normal fairytale like things. She grants his wishes and then he disappears and she disappears and they never once have sex or make out even. I liked it because they never made out or had sex. This keeps the anticipation of their coitus going through the entire film and when their relationship is never consummated you are left unsatisfied but also you are not disappointed. The anticipation lasts and lasts. The songs in the film grew on me but mostly I thought they sounded too much like Coldplay. I'm not a big fan of Coldplay although I did like it when Chris Martin was on Extras. That was funny.

Also, the main guy was the redheaded guy who was in the band in the movie The Commitments. I really like him. I think he must be much older than he appears however. In my experience, Irish men look 25 until they are fifty and then they look 70 or 80 from then on. And they don't just look that way either.

Anyway, I'm starting the band up again. Who wants to be in it with me? Auditions were this afternoon but I'm having more auditions into next week. Anyone who auditions gets into the band.

Additives:

I posted this but then I wanted to add a couple of things. Firstly, guy from Once is named Glen Hansard and he is almost 38 years old. The girl in the movie was born in 1988 so there is a big age difference between them. I'm not saying this for any reason I just thought that he must be much older than he appears because The Commitments came out a long time ago. It was released in 1991. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. I give it 5 bloody and scarred from the gnawing thumbs up.

Also, the thing I liked about this Once movie the most was that it was about a street musician. I guess they call these "Buskers" in Ireland. I'd never heard this term but as a person who has played music in public for money in a can on more than one occasion, and as a person who has known lots of people who have played in public for money in a can, I wish there were a hundred more movies about street musician types of people. Buskers. In fact, I'm thinking of naming my new band, in stead of the Mount Butcher Hillbilly Boys, The Mount Butcher Busker Boys. That has a really nice ring to it. So, whadya say? Who wants to be a Mount Butcher Busker Boy? (you needn't be an actual real boy)

what a great fookin movie, as they'd curse in Dublin. We just watched that last week after hearing about it for over a year from Alicia's irish cousin. Glen Hansard is the leader of this irish band The Frames that is hugely popular there and in Europe, but not so much here. I haven't checked them out yet but should.

Any ways it really is the kind of movie to watch several times. i loved it. i loved loved loved the song they did first together in that music shop at the piano.

yeah. The Frames. I liked the song that they sang the first time in the piano shop too. I liked how it did really feel like it does when you are working on a song with someone. I got your recommendation from netflix but I'd also heard all about it before and so I just moved it up my queueueueu. And that's the end of the story.

ONCE was a nice little movie but not nearly as good as THE COMMITTMENTS. I might buy the album though.
Just curious AP, is the guy from Oregon who asked that hilarious TV dinner question on Tim Goodman's blog part of your posse? Also, who is this new question girl they've got coming in? I'm outraged on your behalf.

The crazy drunk sounding guy from oregon has nothing to do with me, thank goodness. And as for the new question girl, all the luck to her.

I have reason to believe this movie isn't nearly as good as everyone says it is. Every movie review and every person who has seen it is like OMIGOD it's going to change your life and it's the best movie ever but I heard some of the songs from it on NPR and it just seemed...overwrought. I dunno.

So, really, Mandy? Is it? Really? Best movie ever?

I have the Commitments waiting for me back in Berkeley and Once somewhere on my queue. Perhaps I shall judge myself, and not be your goddamn sheep for once, Mandy.

I think for Irish people it is like the best movie ever. Maybe just for Irish American people. And people who love soul music. And people with hearts and souls themselves. And people who aren't cold bitches. You aren't a cold bitch are you Sara? You'll like it, I'd bet.

Seeing how you're no longer commenting on Mick's blog, I pretty much reposted this blog, without giving you credit. They are all gaga over ONCE. I'm committed to THE COMMITTMENTS.

I do still read it, I just don't comment much. I didn't read the golden globes comments yet but I will now. I can't believe you didn't give me credit. I'm really pissed and may sue.

Yeah AP, I'm an ingrate for sure. You turned me on to Feist and how do I repay you? By pretending that I knew Glen Hansard was in THE COMMITTMENTS. I really do believe that was a better film than ONCE though. It had better music, a better story, and some humor.

I didn't know that guys was the guy from The Frames. I don't really know the band, but I like the few songs I've heard. I've also never seen the whole movie of the Commitments. I always wanted to - even when it came out and I was two young to get it. The soundtrack is great though. Once sounds like I might like it to. Too bad we rarely see any movies.

Except Superbad, which we are watching tonight. In fact, we are watching it right now. We have had to stop it about 3 times in order to take care of the little guy. It is hard to watch a movie that you actually have to pay attention to. We see about one out of ten movies that we might think would be interesting to watch. So I will probably never see this Once movie. Be sad for me.
