Now this Pedro dude had the attitude but the seventies had him spaced.

I haven't written anything here for a while it seems. It seems like its been ages because I was in the habit of writing stuff like every couple of days.

SHAZZZZAAAAM!!!!

I thought that first part was a really boring way to start out this little postemups so I decided to write shazam in big letters with exclamation points to kind of punch it up. I like to punch things up. Yo. Like your face. Yo.

I got to see my little nice niece this last weekend. She is coming along nicely. She can wave and growl and make a squished up face and and she can almost walk. And she laughs and claps too. So much entertainment from so few tricks. But she pretty much performs on command which is the most important thing for a child to do, in my opinion.

My favorite teacher in the world told me that I NEED to go to graduate school. I went to turn in a paper to her in her office and she was telling me how awesome I am. And I usually agree but I can't remember a professor ever telling me that I need to go to graduate school. I've thought about it, sure, but it somehow holds more weight when someone who actually reads the crap I write for school thinks that my talents would best serve me in higher education. It was really flattering and has made me consider it more. She was telling me about T.A-ships at universities for graduate students and that if I find a school that gives those to its grad students then that would cover my tuition and usually my housing and food too. And it isn't really based on income. She said that most good universities don't take on grad students that they can't support. One of my biggest concerns about going to school for another 5 to 6 years is the amount of debt I'll be in. But then I can get a fancy university teaching job and pay off all my loans in no time. And I wouldn't have to teach stupid high school students. It would be kind of a sweet deal. She said it is much easier to get a teaching job if you had a T.A.-ship at your grad school.

So I'm thinking of it more seriously now then I had been. Especially given the money issue being not as big of a deal as I thought it would be. She is my adviser too, so I'm sure she would give me a really great letter of recommendation. And the teacher I had last quarter probably would too.

And I've been thinking of the project I'm going to do next year for the capstone experience we have to do as seniors. I'm writing it out here so that I don't forget. I think I'm going to do something on performance as criticism. For instance, a director picks a play and then basically does a critical analysis of it through the performance of it. There is usually an interpretation based on some sort of argument, just like in literary criticism. I think it is the most thorough form of criticism since every aspect of the script has to be addressed, from the setting to cosutumes to dialect, down to the very meaning of every individual line and how it will be delivered. The producers, costumers, set designers, actors, all the people involved in the artistic aspects of the production, they all contribute to a thesis that is supported by the text. This has always been one of my favorite, if not my very favorite, aspect of being involved in a theatrical production of any kind. Explication expanded and taken to the extreme. When I think of all the productions of Oedipus that have been put on over the millenia, I bet there was at least one actor or director or producer who's production reflected a belief or theory that would mirror Freud's ideas on the oedipus complex. Perhaps even hundreds of years earlier. Because the process of a production is not generally recorded and because it is rare that a production team will outline their process or theories behind a particular interpretation, there is no record of the discussions the greeks may have had about psychoanalysis in terms of oedipus' story. But that doesn't mean that no one ever thought about it before Freud. I'm very excited about this.

What else? My parents are off having adventures in Europe and I have to go water my mom's plants for the next few weekends down in Yreka. So if you happen to be in Yreka over the next few weekends, we can totally party at my parents house without them harshing our buz.

That's actually a great thesis topic. And it will be such fun to write. I hope you go to grad school.

I totally think it is an awesome thesis. In fact, the more I think about it, the more awesome it becomes.
