stupid fucking world

So my job is going to change our insurance. I've worked here for less than 2 years and this will be the 3rd time we've changed. This time is definately the shitty shits though. Right now I have a 500$ deductable which means I have to pay 500$ out of pocket and then my isurance kicks in and starts paying 80% of my office visits. I have a copay for dr's visits and medications. In the last 6 months I've shelled out about 600$ total for prescriptions and dr's visits and labs. They want to change our plan to a 1500 dollar deductable with a health savings plan to help us pay for it by allowing us to put money in a medical savings plan tax free. We already have something like this called a flexible spending account or cafeteria plan. I put money in, tax free, from my paycheck and then when I spend 100 dollars on prescriptions I get reimbursed for that 100 dollars even if I haven't put 100 dollars in the account yet. So basically all this new plan is doing is changing my deductable from 500$ to 1500$. I worked it out, after looking at my statements from my insurance as to what they were billed and what they payed and I was able to see what I would have had to pay if I was on this plan for the last 6 months. I would have had to pay almost 1800 dollars. It would triple my out of pocket expenses in just 6 months. Let alone a year. Let alone vision and dental. One of the women at work is pregnant. She is due in may. This will start in february. Because the deductable for family is 3000 and her husband will be on hers since he has no insurance, she will have to pay 3000 dollars of her own money before they start paying for her pregnancy. She didn't plan on this when she got pregnant and hasn't been planning for it since she got pregnant. Now she has 4 months to save up for having her baby. And she doesn't get paid a lot. Probably 13 or 14 dollars an hour at the most. Another coworker of mine has MS. Her medications cost 1300 dollars monthly without insurance. Not to mention doctor's appts and labs. And occasional visits to the er when she loses the feeling in her legs. I'm getting my resume together this evening after work.

Oh, man, that's crazy! I wish I could put you on my insurance plan. That really is sucky. Apply for something at Community Works. Their insurance used to be pretty decent, I think.

The sad thing is, you might not be able to get a better health insurance deal anyway. That shitty "offer" might the best thing going. Why this isn't discussed further in a major political or media way is beyond me. The insurance industry is making bucket loads of cash right now and claiming that those pesky lawyers are causing rate hikes. But waht can you do?

actually steve, there are places that give way better insurance. Like walmart, and starbucks, and the hospital that I work right next to and where I have now applied to work for. The truth is, if they wanted to, they would just pay the rates in order to keep the employees they have and as an incentive for people to apply there. There is a nursing shortage, you may have heard, and we have been looking for another nurse for 3 months. We just hired one right before this bomb was dropped but she hasn't started yet. If you were a nurse and you would get paid the same or more somewhere else AND get better benefits would you work where I work? I wouldn't. I'm not going to.
